A study on biblical creation, the authority given to man, and the critical role fathers play in instilling identity and value within the family.
God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." This wasn't just a statement of creation; it was a transfer of authority.
By giving man dominion over the earth, God effectively shifted the burden of management. When things go wrong in the earth realm, the question isn't "Why did God let this happen?" but rather:
"Why did man let this happen?"
Man's purpose is to bring the earth under God's authority.
When God formed man, He started with a physical shell—the dust of the ground. But the body was inanimate until a specific action occurred.
Just as God is a triune being (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), man was created with three parts: Spirit, Soul, and Body.
After creating man, God took a step back to let Adam walk in his authority. God brought the animals to Adam "to see what he would call them."
God didn't interfere. He gave Adam the power to define identity. Adam was fulfilling a creative role intended for him, establishing order in his domain.
When God created woman, He caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and took a rib. This signifies that the first act of a husband is sacrifice—losing something of himself.
When Adam woke up, he didn't just see another creature; he instilled value in her:
"This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh."
He declared that she was not an animal, but his equal. He gave her identity.
In the family unit, the mother provides nurturing, but the father provides identity. This is why children often forgive a mother's mistakes quickly—they see it as a behavioral issue. But when a father fails, it strikes at the child's core identity.
For daughters especially:
Jesus, though fully God, humbled Himself to be found in the appearance of man. Since man was made in God's image, Jesus returning as a man was simply Him staying true to His own form.
He came to restore the dominion and identity we lost, empowering us to live fully as the people God created us to be.
