Matthew 7:13-14
BSB
13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14 But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.
BSB
What is the wide gate?
------------
For the first century Jew, it would have been affluence, belonging with a family and having heirs, and underneath it all was a perception of righteousness and its eventual salvation according to the rule book of the day, The Law of Moses. It's not all that different for us.

However, the wide road leads to destruction.
What about the narrow gate?
------------
It's not going to be easy. The narrow path is uphill both ways. It is dangerous, difficult, and costly.
John 10:7-10
BSB
7 So He said to them again, “Truly, truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
8 All who came before Me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
9 I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.
BSB
While Matthew 7 tells us that we MUST enter the narrow gate to find life, John 10 tells us that Jesus IS the Gate to life.
3 Different Ways Jesus is the Gate:
------------
1. Jesus provides direction.
2. Jesus provides care.
3. Jesus provides sacrifice.
Entering through the narrow gate to life is possible because Jesus is the Gate.

John 14:6
BSB

Living Out the Narrow Path

Consider how followers of Christ can practically live out their faith on the narrow path. What daily habits or choices help us stay aligned with Jesus as our guide?

Practical Steps to Follow the Narrow Path

Living out the teachings of Jesus requires intentional actions. Consider practical ways to align your daily life with the values of the narrow gate, such as cultivating humility, practicing discernment, and prioritizing spiritual growth.

Luke 9:23-24
BSB

Luke 14:27-33
BSB
27 And whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.
28 Which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if he has the resources to complete it?
29 Otherwise, if he lays the foundation and is unable to finish the work, everyone who sees it will ridicule him,
30 saying, ‘This man could not finish what he started to build.’
31 Or what king on his way to war with another king will not first sit down and consider whether he can engage with ten thousand men the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
32 And if he is unable, he will send a delegation while the other king is still far off, to ask for terms of peace.
33 In the same way, any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple.

Ephesians 2:8-10
BSB
8 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.
